The Lee Hall farmhouse was built by John Archer Curtis and Sally Shield in 1912 and renamed Bear Hut Farm in 2019. Much of the main home has been restored to its original character including exposure of the flues, period pedestal sinks and hardware, and many of the windows. The house has been insulated and electric wiring updated to include recessed lighting. The Living Room's unique farmhouse wall was designed using templates from historic and colonial farmhouses and constructed by artisans Donnie and Sally Whim. The grounds and gardens have been meticulously cultivated to include several heirloom species of Peonies, Salvia, Clematis, milkweed, Echinops, Aster, Brunnera, Gautama and creeping thyme that attract herds of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Brick pathways were added using handmade Jefferson bricks. A stone-raised flowerbed was erected using historic quarried rock retrieved from a Virginia plantation. The property echoes the historic relevance of local Virginia history.
